Shorinkan Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).

  1. What is Shorinkan?
    Shorinkan, is an orgainzation that was put together by the late Hanshi Shugoro Nakazato in the early 1970's.  The Shorinkan in an umbrella group of all the dojos world wide who train in Okinawan Shorin-ryu Kobayashi-te as taught by hanshi Shugoro Nakazato.

  2. Who started Shorinkan
    Shorinkan was started by Hanshi Shugoro Nakazato with the help and assistance of Kyoshi Noel Smith in the early 70's and is not a world wide Karate Organization headed up in Okinawa, Japan

  3. Who is Hanshi Shugoro Nakazato?
    Sadly Hanshi Shugoro Nakazato passed away in 2016.  In 2016 the Okinawan Prefecture Board of Educations bestowed the title "Kenmukei Bunkazi" or Intangible Cultural asset. 

  4. Who is running the Shorinkan after Hanshi Shugoro Nakazato?
    Hanshi Minoru Nakazato, Hanshi Shugoro Nakazato's son is now heading up the organization

  5. Who can become a member of Shorinkan?
    A student can only become a member of Shorinkan if the dojo they train in is a member, only then can they wear the Shorin-ryu Shorinkan patch

  6. How can my dojo become a member of Shorinkan?
    You can reach out to one of the senior Kyoshis for more information
